I did understand that on second reading, yes. 
It was the rogue comma that did it.

Those, rogue commas can be, really a pain, sometimes... We had a whole group of them, once, nesting in the shed at my Dad's... Took us weeks, to, round them all up, and, in the meantimes, they'd managed, to eat through the electrical cable, connecting. UP the lights.
