Not the monkey - Skreeeeeeeeeeeee Posted Jul 19, 2011
Ottos point about inequalities in humour is a good one.
Now - OK - as a man I get annoyed by lazy stereotypes about men (which, by the way, come as often from men as women, right? Were all meant to love footie etc etc). However...when youre the overdog, surely theres an element of Sticks And Stones?
Weve largely learned not to tell Irish jokes now - the history is too raw - and gone are the days of my childhood when even Irish people told them to fit in (often adopting a comedy Oirish accent).
*But*...heres two favourites:
Paddy goes for a job on a building site. The foreman says
~OK - Ill give you the job if you can pass a simple test. Whats the difference between a joist and a girder?~
~Sure, thats easy,~ Paddy saya, ~Joist wrote Ulysses and Girder wrote Faust.~
AND
Q: What is black and blue and floats in the Irish Sea?
A: An Englishman that just told an Irish joke.
(that one told vehemently to a colleague on his first day at work at Trinity College)
Crafty power reversals, no?
And then...
