How come Paddington bear arrived in England speaking perfect english with no trace of an accent? It only just occured to me that it makes no sense.

Paddington did have an accent. He had a British accent. He probably used the same method that Doctor Who and the characters from Star Trek (the original series) used. In later Star Trek series, there was a universal translator which somehow managed to simultaneously translate totally unknown languages into English while matching it perfectly to the lip movements of the aliens. Some trick!

In the 60's I knew several English teachers who went to Peru. I find the marmalade more problematical since. as far as I know, seville oranges don't grow there.
