2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Jul 23, 2010
Alternate holding pints?: naa; one in each hand... more exercise that way... I'm just looking for upping the size of the pints now... its getting too easy ... maybe when we get litre glasses

Just used the exercise bike for the first time and ... I agree with 2legs - that seat is murder!!! Did 8 miles on a really easy programme and I think I have a new understanding for the term "splitting the difference"
That's probably the most exercise I've done in years - this is going to hurt tomorrow isn't it?

I could never do enough exercise on the bike to make it hurt the next day as a result of the exercise itself; that seat would always injur me so much I'd have to give up trying to use the thing after about ten or fifteen minutes

Annoyingly, as I was struggling to get the huge beast out of the back of my car, two neighbours helpfully said I could have had theirs that were sitting unused in sheds - for free

"Did 8 miles on a really easy programme"
From personal experience I think the way forward on exercise programmes is taking it really easy. Ok so you cycle for 30 mins at a really easy pace and you don't feel like it's done much but it has. But actually it has. It's easing you in, making the heart beat faster than normal, building a little bit of muscle.
Plus you're not inclined to feel over hungry from that level of exercise. And if you took it easy enough that you don't ache the next day, you're much more inclined to come back the next day.
And consistency to the exercise programme is the key. If you did 30 mins every day at just a low rate while watching TV that's 3hr30 per week more exercise than you were doing.
As you get more comfortable and into it you'll start to increase your pace and time spent on it.

yep, totally agree with that.
I hate exercise bikes for one reason only: the only muscles I feel that are being used are my upper thigh muscles, which from runnning and rowing for years and years are already like steel. So I stick to cycling to the gym and cycling to the station twice a day and that's enough for me.
