I want to buy an analogue camcorder and seem to be faced with the choice of VHS-C or 8mm .... can anyone enlighten me as to the pros & cons of each system?

VHS-C the C is for compact, uses the standard VHS format for you country ( and don't get me started on the whys and how's of the different formats for different countries ). The tape is just smaller (Compact) it comes with an adapter, that looks like a full size VHS tape, that you put the tape in and play it in your VCR just like a normal VHS tape.
I don't know about the 8mm.
I hope this helps some.
