How long do I have to wait after topping up car battery cells before I test them with a hydrometer? The instructions say testing immediately after filling with water won't give an accurate result.

one hours driving should be enough, of course topping up battery with distilled water will weaken the charge immediately.

Do they still sell batteries that require topping up?????? I thought they died out years ago in favour of sealed batteries.

You need to run the engine to exchange a bit of charge, get the laternator working to recharge it etc.
How low was the fluid when you topped up? What sort of state were the plates in? Was the battery flat or OK when you checked it?
battery hydrometers
Just one cell was too low (plates exposed a bit). But I topped them all up. Battery wasn't flat. I'll put some load on and then use the hydrometer. Thanks.

No worries. Sounds like it should all be fine now Just keep an eye on the cell, if it's kaput you'll notice it soon enough
