I sympathise. Once upon a time enamel washing up bowls used to be put on the stove to boil handkerchiefs or underwear or whatever. When plastic washing up bowls appeared in England (late 50s?) one of my aunts put her nice new green one on the gas. When it started to melt she spread the plastic back with her cake icing spatula and continued to us the bowl for some years.
