fuel

Hello to everyone!

I'm a little bit new on this site, so maybe my question could by a kind of stupid. Anyway, I couldn't find the answer.

Description:

I have an old and decrepite car. I do not have a gas level meter (that's the device which informs how much fuel you have currently)and I do not have a kilometer counter.

Here comes the question:

How can I know when to add some more fuel in that car? I had several sudden stops along the streets and I was forced to buy some fuel in a bottle.
Note: useful info: car make: Romanian Dacia.

Thank you.

Remove the filler cap insert 1x stick of dynamite, attach 1x piece of fuse, stand at safe distance and light fuse.

What about just taking the fuse and letting the dynamite away? Seems better to me because if the tank is full it wille explode and you´ll have to buy a new car, but if it´s almost empty it will just burn a bit and you´ll only have to get either a new tank (if it was out of plastic) or a new tank filling...

Well, if you commuted the same distance each day, you could measure the days, and then on the day before you were due to run out you could fill up again.

Without a distance meter, it's very hard to get an accurate idea of how much fuel you have used. I think carrying a reserve supply of fuel in a suitable (safe) container may be the best solution to avoid becoming stranded.

You could fill the car with fuel every time you go out. You don't get discounts for buying in bulk so it wouldn't cost any more in the long run, it would just mean a lot of very short trips to the petrol/gas station instead of less frequent, longer trips to the petrol/gas station.

Before each journey insert a length of cane into the filler hole, when removed, will give an indication of fuel contents. It may also be useful to carry a reserve can of petrol, but be sure to replenish it after use!
