If you get home and discover you've had a phone call from a number you don't recognise, is there any way of finding out who the number belongs to, other than (a) dialling it, or (b) going through every number in the phone book until you come across it?

There was a CD released by a US based company which let you do that, it created a hoo ha at the time with BT etc trying to get it banned.
Trouble is I can't remember their name
If you ring it I'll bet its a double glasing company

The company you are thinking of live at http://www.192.com
They have an online search as well as a CD called .UK Info Disk'.

There's a free reverse directory at http://www.anywho.com/ that I used to use routinely. There used to be one where you could do a reverse look up by address as well. I'm convinced they're still out there.
