So, I got an external hard-drive to backup all my stuff. It's nice and big so space isn't (yet) an issue.
I've "backed up" music, pictures and documents (so just about everything I wanted) by the simple expiedient of making folders on the external drive, and copying the files from my computer.
But now when I want to do a back up next week (month, year, whenever I remember) how do I do it?
Or is there some nifty, efficient (free) program that will do it for me?

Windows has Backup - start>programs>accessories>system tools>backup
should do what you want.
Until later....

Try Allway Sync. That does pretty much everything I want it to do.

oh thanks both
I'll try Crescent's suggestion first, and see how I get on with that.

When I bought my external HDD there was some backup sync software provided. I guess it's not the case with yours?
Personally though, like you did, I just created my own directories and copy My Documents, My Pictures, My Music and email folder across manually.

Not sure if it helps any ... but it's also on "Control Panel" home under "Backup Your Computer" which under "Systems Maintenance".
"Control Panel" is on the Start Menu ... over on the right of it ... third one up ... above "Default Programs" and "Help and Support"

In Vista, click start -->control panel --> system maintenance --> backup your computer.
