h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I must read the manual for Heroes of Might and Magic III, I cant figure out using the marketplace at all...

I'm a simple gamer, I do prefer it to explain things the first time you come across them rather than having to read a readme file. Let me jump in, quick run down on controls and away we go, tell me what I need to know when I get there!

The manual for SimEarth (1993 or so) is huge. There's an unused page between two chapters, so they stuck some jokes in there. One of them is entitled "Nobody Reads Game Manuals" and goes something like this:
"I know nobody reads these things because they're so long and boring, but I knew you would, mum, just for me and... Mum? Wake up, Mum!"

For many people the best RTS is still "Total Annihilation". I rescued a boxed copy from Oxfam last year and it's pretty good.

Supreme Commander isn't bad and of course Starcraft but I imagine you have already played SC. Warcraft III is good as well, but then have blizzard ever made a bad game?

Grah! I'm sorry but Eternal Sonata isn't doing it for me.
It seems to me that you have to spend a whole lot of time
leveling up otherwise you get trashed.
I've got Resident Evil on order so this gets traded in on Saturday.

I'm about two days into Resident Evil 5 so far.
So far, so Resident Evil,4 but set in Africa and with a partner.
The zombies are frikin hard to beat at times and ammo can get
a bit scarce.
It wouldn't be so bad if my partner didn't loose off shots like
ammunition is going out of fashion.
A zombie is hiding behind the wall and she's blasting away at it.
Niggly gripes aside, it's an enjoyable game, plus I've got the shotgun
now so watch out suckers.

Now playing The Westerner - I got it for my birthday several years ago, but it kept crashing on my old computer. Still doesn't run entirely smoothly, but at least they've brought out a patch that makes it playable.

That carrot-growing business you have to keep doing is really tedious!

Wow, ResiEvil is turning out to be a really good game now that I've found a way of
curbing Sheva's appetite for blasting away.
Graphics are top notch and gameplay is pretty smooth with no problems with the camera.
The game allows you to revisit previous chapters carrying over everything you find.
It's very satisfying to go back to earlier chapters with much heavier
firepower and kick some ass.

Thought I'd stick this on here.

I'm currently playing The Last Remnant on Xbox 360. I've saved my game (fortunately in several areas). Tonight I was told by my 360 that It couldn't load my saved game until I had downloaded updates - I was.in the Aqueducts.

Specifically it said, 'Load failed. Please download a required update to load this data'

I can't find an update. It's driving me nuts. Have checked the interwebby thingy - no joy! Anyone here that can tell me what's going on?

Seems like a lot of people have had trouble with The Last Remnant
judging by the message boards.
There's supposed to be a patch somewhere on Xbox.com;
and some people suggest installing the game to HDD.
Personally I can't see how that makes a difference but I'm no expert.

I know how frustrating it can be so I hope you do manage to find a solution.

Well there might be a problem with me going on x-box live-i don't have an x-box!

I finished Resident Evil 5 a few days ago and I have to give it
high marks for being enjoyable.
Good graphics, a camera that doesn't let you down and smooth gameplay.

I've traded it in for Killzone 2.
I'm having to supress my instinct to rush in and blaze away. The AI is too blo*dy clever by far.

Apparently, I need to pay for the privelege to get the updates needed ( I have severl profiles - but only one on Xbox Live <head/desk&gt. Fortunately I was able to go back to an earlier save (about 10 hours of gameplay away) and have got further. Just waiting for my card to arrive before I transfer the file to Live.

Had to start Gears of War again for the same reason.

Currently trying to decide whether of not to buy Prey this afternoon. The demo is rather and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg in Blockbuster.

Currently playing a few new Spectrum games I'm reviewing for a fanzine: "Phantomas Tales #1: Marsport", "Frogger", and a conversion of the old 16-bit title "Supaplex".

Also playing "GTA: Chinatown Wars" quite a bit and been playing a bit of "Speedball 2" today.

Playing morrowind now with mods!! It's so much better

The PC version of Braid came out yesterday, I had it on pre-order and I have to say it is an astonishing game. Instant classic, everyone should play it.
