Emotional Intelligence has it's roots in the US - I am interersted in finding out how helpful it is for thinking things through in Scotland - from both the perspective of Young people, Children and Adults.

Living in, having an identity, knowing some of the cultures = fine.
Do you know the work of Daneil Goleman on Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence argues that human competencies like self-awareness, self-discipline, persistence and empathy are of greater consequence than IQ in much of life, that we ignore the decline in these competencies at our peril, and that children can—and should—be taught these abilities. Also people at work should become more aware of them

Well done less than five sentences too!I would agree with the fact that empathy and persistence, and self awareness are important.Self disipline I am not so sure about it smacks of denial?Maybe determination and drive are better adjectives.Do you mean IQ or qualifications sometimes the two are not compatible like common sense not being that common.

Well I dont think people have forgotten the importance of emotional intelligence per se so much as we never formally recognised it.
The measures of peoples skills have been refined from simply assessing rote learning to other skills. Physical and practical skills important in many areas of work can be assesed and more importantly fomally accredited. IQ tests are constantly being refined but there are no formal ways of asssing how good someone is at working out just the right time to tell someone that everyone else thinks they stink or if someone needs a hug rather than a telling off for being late for school.
By elevating other skills we have left behind emotional intelligence and by relation lessend its importance and stopped rewarding as readily those who have it in adundance. Without people with good inter and tntra personal skills in place to foster and encourage it in others. It is possible that we are and will continue to see diminishing levels of people capabale of dealing with the emotional needs of themselves and others.
If you think this is not important look at zoology and see what happened to mamals kept in conditions that did not stimulate or nurture them. Then compare the behaviours of such animals to those of self harming, drug abusing and play station addicted teens and increasingly adults.

That is actually quite depressingbut true.I do think that good does ultimately triumph as long as there are people who can love, share, care, who possess honesty, integrity and are capable of giving then mankind will be

Think there are already a lot of Scottish people that feel this way,but I don't think it is a nationality thing just a personality response
