Question about BT broadband, advice please

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I've been with NTL Broadband, and having my phone from them for ages and ages now, and just got pointe dout to me the other day that if I was with BT broadband, I'd be saving £10 a month, and getting 2 MB rather than 1 MB at this cheaper price smiley - erm I've found NTL broadband pretty reliable, and wondered if anyone has had good/bad experiances on BT broadband or anything about the service they provide, as I'd hate to change over to find its c**p smiley - erm

Have a look at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/

There are alternatives that are cheaper and/or more reliable than BT Broadband, because BT relies on its name to attract customers to an extent. Its still not a bad choice though.

If you're on nthell or smellywest, you probably won't have. You'll have to reconnect with bt to get dsl broadband

I'm sure I remember there also being a BT pohone point in teh house, for some reason I think its the socket in teh main bedroom is BT, so I'd need to have extension doobrys run from it if I did that smiley - wah With some of the other providers, could I cancil my NTL broadband, and conintue getting the phone from then, and then use another company for the Broadband? smiley - huhsmiley - erm

If you split your suppliers and get your phone from NTL and Broadband from BT it could prove the more expensive option. You will still be paying line rental for the BT line which is probably the most expensive componant of any deal.

Wanadoo have just release a new deal just this day. £17.99 for 1Mb connection. For £4.00 extra you can get a VoIP box which will allow you to make calls over the Internet. Free in the evenings and weekends and cheap daytime and international calls. But you still need a BT line.

I don't really care too much about getting cheap phone calls, I hardly ue it much, and its rarely more than £5 or £10 worth of calls a month; I make most of my long distance calls using the free minutes in the evening on my mobile smiley - erm

Oh I was going to say more than that smiley - doh I wouldn't want to have both BT line and NTL, I was foolishly thinking I could get the NTL phone line, and then use the NTL phone line with a different provider, but I see now that most seem to only work on the BT lines smiley - doh that 17 quid a month deel is going to be very* popular I guess, as its hadly much more epxensive than a lot of dialups certianly used* to be smiley - erm I quite like the idea of having the 2 GB that is with the BT deal though, but I think first I need to figure out the phone socket situeation and how much it'd cost/how much haslte it'd be to get extensions from the BT box (which i think is upstairs) and to the front room where the computer stuff is smiley - doh

Have you got NTL viacable? If so I can't see that BT will be cheaper. It costs me £10.50 a month to rent the phone, and then I was paying over £26 a month for the broadband. It's just been reduced to £20, but it's still over £30 a month (without making phonecalls). I can't see how that's cheaper than anything else!

I'm paying something like £45 a month, inc the 10 quid ish for the phone and the whatever it is for the broadband, don't get the cable TV as I'm not interested in that, get both from NTL, and the BT one is definately* cheaper smiley - bigeyes

That is cheaper then! When I was with NTL (dialup_ they did a good deal.

Be careful with them though - they are notorious for not letting people cancel accounts. I had trouble 3 years ago, and I heard on Watchdog the other week they were still causing people trouble.
