is it just me waiting minutes sometimes until a h2g2 page is loaded?
I don't know, what kind of server/provider/database/scripting is used, all I can say is: compared to other sites, h2g2 is the slowest of all. Maybe it's already too much content and someone has to think about a redesign of the database structure or the server side programs or whatever.

If you think it's bad now, you should have seen it a few weeks back, before the new code was put in.

Where are you based? Are you waiting minutes for the page to appear, or is it all the graphics that take the time? Is it every single page, or just some particular pages?

Hm, I don't have any serious speed problems. I‘ve seen sites that were slower by far. So, I think it must be either you or your provider...

Excuse me !!??? I have a 14.4kbps modem .
the h2g2 site is one of the fastest pages I use, yahoo.com takes longer than this. it's even quicker through linux!

amphetamine abuse is a serious problem and i think this sites friends should convince it to seek medical help immediately.

Hi sorry for the late answer, there's so many things to do here...
I've got a 128kB ISDN connection here in Germany, but that's not the point, because in relation to other sites h2g2 seems to be one of the slowest. I made some tracerts and pings to the server, but the connection seems to be ok. I only can assume the h2g2-server needs some time to create all the dynamic output...

You still didn't say what was taking so long - the initial page or all the graphics? We take less than a second to serve most pages, slightly longer during busier times, and home pages take about 5-10 seconds because of the dynamic content. How long do they take for you?

well are you using the dual ISDN line all by yourself or over a network sharing the connection with a number of other users?

if it's the latter then your likely to be better off with a dialup modem account, if the former then firstly rather than burning your money you could send it to me and secondly what do 2 seconds longer load times than normal matter.
