I liked allo allo so there! It offended my father in law though, he took all war stuff very seriously and making jokes of it was a big no no for him. Then he was a depressive, compulsive.

I liked it too. But come on - it really wasn't in the best of taste!? 'Ze fallen Maddona wiz ze big boobies'? Hmmm

Mind I saw it recently on UK Gold (I think) and my god did it not stand up to memories (but then again, little on UK Gold does...)

When Allo Allo first came out it was shown at an International
TV Festival.

A group of German TV executives watched Allo Allo with a view to buying it for German TV. They came out of the viewing with tears streaming down their faces. We loved it they said, but we couldn't possibly show it on German TV.

The beauty of allo allo is that it to the mickey out of everyone and everything - nobody was spared. Every stereotype you can thing of was bled for all it was worth.

That is fascinating about the germans loving it, but feeling the german public weren't ready for it yet. Maybe they are ready now?

I just watched something on BBC4 about mindsets of the French, German
and British. Have an hour is never going to be that accurate, but it made some interesting points. For instance the German love of the countryside, did you know that the first hippies were 'Nature Boys' who left at the time of nazism and moved to California. Anyway I digress...
