cerebral aneurysms
joolyjoo Started conversation Sep 17, 2008
I have recently been diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm which as I understand is like a bulge in a blood vessel in the brain. I am soon to have an embolisation, whereby a coil will be inserted into the aneurysm to stop it from rupturing and causing a brain heamorrage. This is purely a preventative measure as I have a strong family history of brain bleeds.
I have spoken in depth with my neurosurgeon but would love to speak to anyone else who might have had the same procedure about how they feel, any side effects or any advice they can give me.
I'm really nervous as the operation doesn't come without risks and there is no guarantee that mine will ever rupture if I don't have it. I just don't want my little girl to experience what I had to go through when it happened to my lovely mum.
Please help

Sorry ,I can't help with info, although I vaguely remember a coil being used in an operation on TV( I can't remember any details), however best wishes for your situation and a virtual hug as it must be a rough time for you!

Hi joolyjoo
I have no experience of aneurysms, but I see we have an Edited Guide Entry on the subject, at A2315990. There are a few conversations attached to it, too.
The author, 2legs, is a regular contributor on this site (in fact, he's something of a legend in these parts )
With best wishes for a successful op and speedy recovery.
