I've been sent an e-mail attachment which was written in excel - and can't open it.
Has anyone tried any of the free downloads which allow you to read excel?
Are there any problems or dangers associated with using such software?

Only tried the MS ones - they seem to work like a charm (as you would hope

You should have no problem if you use the Microsoft one.
Go to www.microsoft.com and search for "Excel viewer"

You could download openoffice, which copes admirably with Excel files, or most other Office formats.
