Fantastic!!!
OK - Interview technique:
a) what sort of work are you going for?
b) who is going to interview you? i.e. what position, department
Of course, all without giving names of companies, etc!!!!
Even without knowing this, I would say:
a) what I said before, be honest - experienced & trained people can see right through lies.
b) read through your CV & brush up your memory on things you have written so that you can expand on them, if asked.
c) if you are able, find out what you can about the company beforehand.
d) if they give you the chance: ask about the company (intelligently, if you have previous info that helps to angle your questions), aims of your particular department, if they haven't told you then ask what exactly would your work entail.
e) show a sense of humour - not wild, but livable with - shows that you'd get on with most people.
f) be adaptable.
g) dress, according to job. Appearance is still important in most workplaces - even though they can't enforce it, it makes an impression, so dress in the manner that shows how you would like them to see you (doh, hope you get that!)
h) if they are human & know this is your first interview, they will realise you may be nervous - so don't get yourself in a state!!! On the otherhand don't be too laid back!!!
Hope this helps, again - keep us posted & all the very best of luck.

Out of curio, is it for the original job that you are after?

Yes, it is THE job.

It's managing a gift shop at a place which has a gift shop. ( I'm coy about being more specific) - which I have loads of relevent experience. And I've done my research.
They're having an informal evening interview with all the candidates and then second round of formal interviews...obviously a cunning plan to weed out the nutters. That's something I've never done before so it should be dead interesting. Thinking about it, it's probably less scary than one big crunch-type meeting.

Watch the "informal" angle!!!! So, obviously, be natural: talk to everyone you come into contact with - as you would do with a customer .... get my drift? If there's alcohol around - obviously, watch it & don't drink too much - a little is OK, but don't overdo it. You wan't to look sociable, not a prude, but in control! Enough said, I reckon your natural instincts will prevail!

Ah, thank you kind lad & lass ???
I don't work now - retired very early due to Ind. injury, but I worked in full-time, part-time, contract employment during my working history. So I kind of got an idea of what was wanted, expected & I what I would want if I employed someone. Heh, I've been around the workplace, but never out of work, (until now of course). All this modern type stuff about being loud & laid back still doesn't wash with the professional older types - unless you want a DJ job!!!!!!
Anyway, very glad to help - still got everything xed!!
