Note worthy Captains since World War II

I watched Nadesico last night and they said that there were no note worthy Captains since World War II, there have been admirals, pilots and foot soldiers but to be far there have'nt been any naval conflicts since WWII apart from the Falklands. So can anyone name any famous Captains after WWII???

Captain Birdseye. He fought in the Cod War.

Captain Caveman!
Depends what you mean by noteworthy. Some might feel that under a certain viewpoint the names James and Hewitt might pop up, as it were.

To tell you the truth the only famous Captain I can think of post 1945 is one.
Captain James T. Kirk

Lets go back in time..
Ignoring two gulf wars - the RN has been involved in combat operations in literally dozens of places around the world since WWII
Korea, Suez, Malaya, Iceland, Iran-Iraq, Kuweit, Balkans, Iraq...
They tend not to be high-profile missions as it's rare they're involved in classic navy v navy engagements
As to famous contemporary naval officers - probably the best known in recent years would have been Sandy Woodward (but as he's an admiral I don't know if that comes under your heading of 'noteworthy captains'

James Hewitt was a major, I think, rather than a captain.
When did Captain W E Johns write the Biggles books?

"Hewitt's career in the army had its ups and downs. Though he commanded A Squadron, Scots Guards, in the 1991 Gulf War, he twice failed his major's examination and left the service as a captain, no great achievement after 17 years of service. "

But is he noteworthy of anything other than getting it on with Princess Diana?

Yeah but the RN just tend to sit around or transport people these days, they don't actually do any fighting. I mean we have an entire fleet of RN vessels chasing hurricanes helping people out along the way. The RN is probabily more of a relief force than a fighting force, the flagship the HMS ArkRoyal only has enough fuel for one engine and spends most of it's life in Plymouth harbour holding parties for the admiralty!!!

The Ark Royal's been laid up simply because they haven't the money to run three carriers at a time - (or the crew numbers come to that)...
And as to being a relief force - that's always been part of their job - There's a certain model village ontop of a hill outside Portland that's been 'rescued' at least once a week for decades...
