The latin translation for " I think therefore I am" is "cogito ergo sum".

What I'm wondering is how you would you say "You think not therefore you are not"?

(Descartes)

I'm a bit unsure what you mean by "is this going to be moderated...."

I was just curious, it happened to come up in a recent conversation I had. I figured this was a fast, easy/lazy way to find out.

Are you firmilar with Latin or Descartes or perhaps both, once agin just curious. It's a bad habbit.

I've been moderated before for posting in foriegn languages without translation. I sometimes forget to translate.smiley - erm

I'm modestly familiar with Latin and shamefully unfamiliar with Descartes. Well, I know him in passing.smiley - smiley

I'm not sure where I read this but I understood that "I think therefore I am" is actually not what Descartes said/meant. I thought the correct interpretation was that all an individual can say with any certainty (to themselves presumably) is "I am a thinking thing".

Everyone else is (or could be) a product of your imagination.......

At which point I am going to find a product of my imagination involving fine food, a glass of wine and the one I love.

Everyone here have a great evening/morning/day,

Renne Descartes(from what I gather) wondered around trying to find the meaning of life, possible reasons for life, and finally eaven the possibility of our existance.
Somewhere along the line bla bla bla he decided; he thought therefore he was. Meaning creative thought ensured him that he was not being controled ,therefore he was actually thinking for himself, therefore he "was".
He was also one of the great mathmaticans<?> of his time; he invented mathmatical geometry. Before him geometry was only pictures/shapes/ whatever, I'm not sure what it was before...

The litteral translation dose infact differ from the popular quote.

Sorry if I sound too matter of fact. I hope I'm not wrong. I might have him mixed up with someone else. LOL
