What makes a really good painting, drawing or photograph?

I forgot to add that for me, I like to make flowers out of wood. And because I'm useless at cutting and painting, I tend to find the most basic form of a flower I can and go with that. They look almost cartoonish sometimes
Other people do it better - but I like the idea: break something down to its component parts and get rid of the detail. Sometimes it works, often it doesn't though.

Yep, tou should definiately do your own thing art wise, I always take photos to please me, great if others like them, if not that is OK too.
I have on my wall at moment photos from unusual angles and of odd things but they please me. One is of a round pink cat's toy on a really old black bridge with large rivits, the bridge disapears into blackness with toy on top, sounds weird but works!
I have another of a rope with a metal joint and sideways rope, it is taking from an angle with camera touching rope...it is a really simple photos but seems to work well.
Another of my all time favourites is of a block of flats recese (sp?) where the sides of flat disapear and taper upwards with a wide angle lens making the effect even more exagerated, but the flats being cream coloured and sky nicely blue gives a really pleasing effect, I had to lay on my back in a none too clean area but it was worth it.
In all of those photos the camera was at an unusual angle and in an unusual position, and I may have got strange looks from passers by, but hopefully by experimenting a bit the end result is worth it. Dare to be differant is the moral I suppose.
