Has anyone ever had a fractured coccix?

Post 1

Madbeachcomber, I've done my spring cleaning, does that make me sad?

I hurt mine in November,- no idea how,- the doc says it can take 6 months to heal, but isn't getting any better. Just wondered if anyone else has suffered with a sore tail bone. No jokes please it's not a smiley - laughmattersmiley - wahsmiley - erm

Yes! It seemed to take forever to heal, but when it did, it hasn't hurt since (unless I miscalculate and sit too hard!)

You may have broken yours in a different place, however. Is there a doctor in the house?

I am Donald Sutherland

I'm not laughing, it can be extremely painful. I went to sit down on a swivel chairs once, missed it and straddled one of the feet. Took me about ten minutes just to get up of the floor. One consolation though, nobody saw me.

I got some pretty powerful painkillers from the doctor and after a couple of weeks had forgotten all about it. Six months does seem a long time.

I damaged mine falling down stairs 14 months ago and it still causes me some discomfort...especially if I sit for a long time on a firm chair.

No it is definitely not funny!

Bit of advice: When someone says, watch out, the steps are icy...you might just want to be listening smiley - yikes

Ouch!

I had some pain in that area after a camping trip about 22 years ago (when I was still at school). My Mum took me to the doctor and he said it might be fractured or it might just be badly bruised but there was no point doing an x-ray because you can't do anything to help mend itsmiley - sadface. It got better eventually. I bashed it again falling down stairs last year but it got better much quicker that time so I obviously did less damage.

Any kind of back pain is awful - my sympathies to anyone currently suffering.

I did it too. I slipped on some ice and fell with a real bang!

Mine was very sore for about 3 months, and still twinging 6-8 months later. But then it got better, and now its fine!

Good luck with yours! Sit on cushions lots!

Emee, out from under the rock

Landed wrong on the steps down from my apartment. Mine hurt quite a lot for a few weeks but was better after that. Still have twinges (6 or so years later) if I sit for too long or if there's a change in the weather.

I dont know what I did, but mine is really sore now too if I sit the wrong way. I dont know if its fractured but it doesn't sound like its worth finding out or not, as they wont do any thing to help fix it. I hope you get better soon, I know how horrible back pain is.

Ouch. Sorry to hear it's not clearing up. A friend of mine fractured hers falling down stairs and for a long time afterwards used to carry around an inflatable ring shaped cushion so she could sit down without putting so much pressure on it. Might work for you if you've not tried it already smiley - erm ?

Does anyone know where I can buy and inflatable ring shaped cushion? I seem to have injured my coccyx again this week (NO idea how) and sitting down is agony. I work at a PC for much of the day and it's hard to do that standing up.smiley - erm

smiley - erm I'm afraid I don't know where my friend got her cushion from - maybe you could try a child's inflatable swimming-pool ring type of thing

You could go to a medical supply place, although they might charge you an arm and leg for it.

Of course, then you'd be all out of balance....

(Sorry, having an attack of sillys this morning!)

Seriously, try a medical supply place or large pharmacy.

Thanks for all your tips. I looked in my local branch of Boots last week, as I thought they might have a rubber cushion in their maternity section. I didn't find anything though.

It's feeling a lot better today, which I knew it would after the weekend. My chair at work is an expensive, adjustable jobby and is very comfortable, but the seat is a tad hard so it wasn't doing much for my aching tailbone last week. I've got a short week this week because I am on holiday from Friday, but I'd still like to find a cushion of some sort because I've had this problem before and no doubt I will get it again.

A Super Furry Animal

I think the device that you are looking for is marketed to people suffering from haemorrhoids? Just a thought when searching the interwebnetwork for such things...
