Don't know whether it still has any meaning in this thread , but I always thought that Inner Space was anywhere inside the Solar System, while Outer Space was everywhere else.

Actually, come to think of it, wasn't 'Outer Space' defined simply as beyond the atmosphere (where the atmosphere actually ends is a completely different kettle of fish). Which makes Inner Space the upper reaches of the atmosphere; the place where the American X1 and associated rocket-powered aircraft do their flying.

I always thought they went into space.
Inner vs Outer was more a discussion of where other things came from, comets, meteors, ufos etc
