Dim, annoying people
The Groob Started conversation Jan 7, 2007
On an IMDB discussion it was asked if there really are people as dim and annoying as the character Maggie from Extras. It was suggested there are many and that people that dim really do exist. Have you experienced laughably dim behaviour from anyone?
I was unable to watch an England game live, but the BBC were to show the game 'as live'. I was walking to my home when I ran into a lady I knew. "Don't tell me the England result if you know it, because I want to watch the game when I get home" I said. Without any malice at all she instantly said "Okay, England lost 2 - 0".
On another occasion I was due to watch the highlights of an England match. I ran into the same lady and, knowing that she wasn't an England fan, I decided not to mention the game. She'd obviously remembered that I was a football fan and started the conversation with "England just won 2 - 0".

I was recently working in a hotel, where one of the waitresses came in with a love-bite on her neck. When the (very direct) chef asked her if she wasn't a little old for that kind of thing, the waitress replied that her uncle, who is in his 40's, gave them all the time.
The chef asked if her uncle was an ****ing pikey (an offensive expression refering chiefly to the travellers in Ireland, but has come to represent a wider proportion of the travelling community).
To which the waitress replied "Well, he was born *around* october..." without the slightest hint of irony.

Some people I've known have use this trait when dealing with people they regard as plebs and bores..it cuts short some very irritating conversations. It might also be because they find you boring and are not really listening properly to what you say.Or they are partially deaf and only hear a small part of the conversation but like so many deaf people won't admit to being deaf.

I love Maggie
I agree, dim comments are really, really annoying. And I cant' stand folk who love the sound of their own voice but have nothing to say.
But Maggie is doing the best with what she has. And she is funny.
