Just went outside to recycling bin, and I saw Venus shining brilliantly in the early evening sky . Do have a look.

I love the night sky. The deplorable lack of stars is one of my few dislikes about London.

Don't lose hope yet!
Even in an area of serious light pollution it should still be possible to see Venus. It is unmistakeable against the western sky.
Light pollution tends to be more of a pain in the a**s for viewing less distinct objects.
Later on, towards midnight, Jupiter will rise in the east. It is equally impressive in the sky.
