my computer has changed! help!

Suddenly the screen display was different(after my daughter added some sheep to the screen. She said they'd go away when she switched it off, well they did, but lots of things changed. My user password User password was wiped out, internet password was not saved, computer crashed, screen display was 16 colours instead of whatever it was before. The list is pathetic. Icons were bigger, windows were bigger, when I changed steeings they reverted back again. Maybe she didn't log off properly? Also in my panic I deleted windows media player, but there was already an error message about that. Perhaps its a bug? Or is it something I've not yet heard of? Quite likely, as it's a new computer, well, last September, and I've not got to know it very well yet. Anyway, could do with some helpful hints. I.E should I reset everything with the 'System Restore Pack?' (ok except i've had a cdrewriter added since then, and the wiring has been changed).
Or should I tackle things one at a time, sort of troubleshooting, and hope to put it all right eventually?
Comments welcome , except 'have you done a backup then?

sorry to here this. Suggest you a) sacrifice daughter or b)ask daughter to fix it ( she probably knows
more than u and I put together! Failing that depending on which operating system you use,
i should examine you screen and adapter settings closely.
Regards

Thanks for your suggestions.Yes, I'd like to sacrifice daughter, but she does know a bit more than I do, though not enough to fix this. The tech support people were very helpful (and expensive). The screen is normal looking again (whatever normal is). They even found the CDROM drive for me. All I need to do now is ring them again to get the MCI Sounddriver back from wherever it went, and check the MMMSYSTEM281 file, whatevr that is. Apart from that, the little wheel in the mouse seems to be the only thing lift to fix, and I can live without it (I think). I have learned some valuable lessons from all this:
1. Do not let anyone else near the computer.
2. Do not use the computer when drunk.
3. Do not use the computer anyway.
4. When in doubt, do not use the computer.
5. If none of the above apply, do not use the computer.(except maybe sometimes to check if it really does still work OK.)
