Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm fairly new to h2g2 and I am trying to put smileys on my messages, unfortunately when I add the appropriate code to get them , all I'm getting is the code within the message. Help me please!

If you're talking about in postings its

< smiley > (without the spaces) for smiley - smiley
< cake > for smiley - cake
etc...

the two symbols either side of the word are the 'less than' and 'greater than' symbols on your keyboard...

If you don't have any luck with that, could you post us an example of what you're trying to do so we can see where you're going wrong < ok > smiley - ok

Or you could use Brunel skin (as my friendly ACE advised) which has a handy selection of the more common ones on screen for ease of access.

The more unusual ones are a different matter,

smiley - rofl
smiley - zzz
smiley - stiffdrink

Just showing off now.

Also, use the preview button to see if they work before posting!

Bilbo, the code you were using would be perfect for GML Personal Spaces and entries (for example if you wanted to put a smiley on your personal space you'd have to use the long code...)

For plain text entries and conversations you should just use the shorter version

< cheers >
smiley - cheers
