Spiders have captured it. They're forcing it to do their dishes.

I had two hooded rats who escaped, didn't put down food or water other than in the cage and they returned when hungry/thirsty. I'd suggest securing the rat you still have so you can leave the cage open for the escapee
But don't listen to me as I am 'sick and depraved' - thanks SWL! I have a Mexican Black Velvet and she has helped me overcome arachnophobia.

Aargh !
Remember to put a little leg iron on your remaining rat or the spiders will kidnap her too.
To do the drying up.
Probably.

I've heard that squab is quite tasty. I have found my Daisy air rifle to be quite the deterrent to the starlings that insist on driving the native cavity nesters out of their cavities. As a consequence, I now have chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, red bellied wood peckers, wrens, flickers, and blue birds all nesting in the holes in my trees, and the starlings are very circumspect about hanging around in my yard. Benefit of the air rifle is it shoots pellets very quietly and the neighbors remain unaware of the activity and so I don't have the gendarmes at my door asking about discharging firearms within the city limits.
Plus my aim has gotten a lot better.

Actually Wilma, airguns are perfectly legal here in the UK. Providing it is used away from bystanders with no danger to others, I doubt the Police would take an interest.
