Question about Broadband In the UK/Free Broadband offers...
2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Started conversation Jun 28, 2006
I saw something like this a while ago, on 'Talk Talk' which is what I think my Father is on now for his phone Anyhow my lodger got a letter from his mobile phone company, I won't mention which firm, anyhow, this was offering 'free' broadband 'up to 8 Meg' Now, obviously this isn't 'free' in the true sense; as its only open to us as a result of his having a £30 per month contract with the firm for his mobile phone. But, seeing as how he's paying that anyhow, it is kinda* free I guess from the companys point of view, its a very good way to get you 'hooked' in as a perminant mobile phone customer, as if you decided to change providers you'd also loose the home Broadband connection Now, the question is, is this likely to be any good a service? has anyone taken up on one of these or simular 'offers'? Did it work out alright?

I'm no expert, but don't be surprised if the 'free' offers have very low useage limits in terms of the amount of data that can be uploaded or downloaded.

Indeed. I won't say I was taken in, but my original BT subscription had a low download limit. I could avoid it as long as I didn't P2P or listen to internet radio, but before too long I found myself paying the extra 6 quid a month to get full use out of broadband.

Hmm.... Will have to try and find their 'small print' about it we don't use peer2peer much; Very very ocasionally for a song lodger or I are trying to work out how to play and don't have a copy of it but we use the internet radio an awful lot really

I've signed up with Talktalk, simply because they seemed the cheapest. There's a 40gb usage limit with them. This sounded OK to me, is it?
One complaint is it will be another month before I'm connected.
