Where shall I go on holiday?

Post 1

I need locations/resorts/countries.

I am going a a week on Saturday. (Oh b** I've just realised that I might miss some of the world cup). Anyway that is when I am going (with SoRB).

Requirements:
Warm/hot
Beach
Swimming pool
A local town where I can mooch and shop.
Under £500 for the week.

We are going to the travel agents tonight but I would like an idea of some good places.

I have not been abraod for about 5 years. I've been to Paros and Naxos in Greece, Normandy and the French Alps. SoRB has been all over the place.

Any tips people?

Hi

Have a look at this, http://www.portugalcasitas.com/ I have stayed there a few times and the couple that own it are great. You may be a little late to book but if you email them they will tell you if they have any vacancies. Flights to Lisbon can be a bit of a hassle if your away from London but it's worth the effort.smiley - smiley

Is the £500 including flights and spending money for both of you?

If so, try Bognor smiley - winkeye

I managed to get a fantastic deal to Egypt Charm El Sheik a couple of years ago through a company on teletext.com, I think it was Hayes travel.

Anyway it was £201 for flights, accomodation and transfers including taxes and was 1/2 board!

It was beautiful, I can't wait to get back there! smiley - ok

The area around Carcassonne and towards the beaches of Languedoc is really nice. Cheaper than SE France, culture, beach, some interesting towns.

Or SW France - either towards the Basque Country, or a bit higher up around Lacanau - surf, wine, historic towns, sand dunes...

The Spanish side of the border at both ends of the Pyrenees is also great.

Thank you everyone. In the end we booked an apartment in Thassos. Looks like a nice peaceful island. £300 each which seems ok.

Really looking forward to it.

Dea.. - call me Mrs B!

Thassos is beautiful!!!!smiley - biggrin I was there a couple of years ago. A stunningly beautiful little island which has escaped the worst excesses of tourist development and will still give you all the amenities without the huge concrete blots on the landscape that a lot of the Greek Islands are suffering from (except for one side of Limenas (Thassos Town) near the new harbour! The fishing harbour end is much nicer). It's much greener than most of the other islands and it's well worth a couple of days jeep hire to explore the inside a little bit! Mozzies can be a problem so if you're prone to bites, either drink lots of G&Ts (renowned repellent!!!<stiffdink&gtsmiley - winkeye or eat lots of garlic!!!

Have a great time!!!

Absolutely loved Thassos. We went to the Golden Beach resort and didn't feel the need to explore further. If we had been there for 2 weeks we probably would have hired a car or something.

Glad you enjoyed it Alex - didn't pick up yur original post - but would've probably recommeded Lesvos. South West Crete (bit thin on the swimming pools though!) or poss Thassos - went there *mumble* years ago and even though it was the first week in May and the weather was "brisk" it was still a beautiful place to stay.
