Novell / GroupWise help

I need some help from some of our brilliant researchers. I am trying to move a GroupWise 5.5 post office off of a Novell 4.11 server to a Novell 5.1 server. I have done some researching and I believe I can accomplish this by running the Novell 5.1 upgrade wizard ( upgrdwiz.exe) with both servers on the same LAN segment. Has anyone tried this and how did it work and if you didn’t use the upgrade wizard how did you move GroupWise post office.

Your answers and suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

Make sure you read every official word from Novell. The ISS dept here where I work missed something in the text and email was down for a week and content was lost. Something in the end of the text like 'and before you start, do this'

Back up everything.

Thanks Apparltlon,

The prep work took us longer that we expected, so we got a late start on the upgrade. But after we tried to start the upgrade we ran into several problems that did not pull up in the Novell Knowledge base under searches on upgrade, upgrade wizard, Novell 5.1,... The first unknown problem that we found was after we tried to run the upgrade wizard we received an error, researching the error we discovered that you should not run the upgrade wizard on the CD and that your LAN segment cannot be on a switched hubs. So after wasting 2 days on prep work and trying to upgrade the server we fell back to the old server. Luckily we did not lose any data and did not exceed the outage window, although we are still on the old server.

Our new plan is to back up the old server, down it, restore a backup to the new server and then bring it online. I am researching what is involved for that plan to work. Hopefully Novell's knowledge base will be more enlighten this time.

Thanks,
