Is the British Government using the BBC for its own means?
Researcher U197087 Posted Feb 1, 2003
I think a lot of programming inclined toward holding government policy to account, and satire shows like HIGNFY are there to show at least some forum for doubt; a lot of which may prove to appease dissent, on the premise that there is some sort of platform out there, so we can all relax, leave the experts to it, and get on with our working and shopping.
Satiation for the seditious.
Is the British Government using the BBC for its own means?

The British government have tried to "interfere" with what the BBC broadcasts on two occasions I know about.
Churchill requested the BBC broadcast anti-trade union propaganda in (I think) the 1920s. The BBC Director General (himself a conservative) refused, stating that the BBC was impartial
Margaret Thatcher requested that the BBC refer to British troops as "our troops" when covering the Falklands War. The BBC refused, as this would not be impartial reporting.
I don't think the BBC is likely to bow to government pressure of any kind.
