Thankyou Melusine! How are you finding h2g2? I found it tough in the beginning, but I soon picked it up. There are plenty of places for help. One of the best things I find is to look at plenty of userspaces...and once yout ake time out to learn GuideML, everything slots into place!

My advice is short and sweet.

Find three good books - one poetry, one novel and one non-fiction.

Have one good outfit.

Get involved in at least one social injustice because you WANT to. I abhor the idea of charity work, but when I heard about the West Memphis Three action, I couldn't keep away. You can find out about that at : http://www.wm3.org

Always have someone to lean on.

Always do 90% of things to benefit yourself and it geenrally benefits others.

Hobbies are always a great thing. Extreme sports are worth a go. Computer games are a must. H2G2 is a must. Films, books, art. You could be a buff in all of them! Trawl through the h2g2 guide and find out new things. Learn how to sew. Look after your friends kids.

So much to do in life. It's hard to forget what freedom is sometimes...

Hi Tom!

I'm fairly addicted to h2g2 now - sitting here waiting for someone to reply to my posts.........

But to answer your query - if you feel unfulfilled, I suggest you do something to help other people as already mentioned.
Is your health really too bad to do much sport or are you just not athletically inclined? Plenty of activities available that don't require much physical exertion.

One other thought that hasn't cropped up - are you ready to consider having children? It's certainly been the most fulfilling aspect of my life, though not the only one.

smiley - cheers

Magpie - back again

Yeah, but children are a bit permanant aren't they? If a couple of months down the line you decide you don't like them you can't exactly take them back for a refund.

Going back to the marital issue - sounds like you're more hung up over 'wedding' rather than 'marriage' - the wedding is only one day, and that one day is over before you know it!

But it's *not* just a piece of paper - something does change - it does tend to feel different. Me - I'm very happy in the state of matrimony, don't get me wrong - but don't let anybody tell you it's a chance for a knees-up and then business as usual.

I thinkt he fact that you're even thinking about where your life is going may change things, even qwithout you realising it....

And you're right - it's a totally cool U number! smiley - cool

I'll vouch for Saturnine's lack of sarcasm. She's not clever enough. But then what do you expect from a WEEite?!

I'm pretty much hooked on hootoo but I'm not sad enough to check my ratings in the "most active poster" list or whatever.

There's loads of thing you can do here - join POO for example!
Become a Thingite, get your own smiley - spork and learn the mantra:
Soddit
Wimpy
Wibble
Thing
Poets
Doobry
Dontbry
(where Sodit = the first and most awful day of the week)

Join PUDDING and "enjoy" the company of other grumpy old sods.

Or if you can't be bothered, there's always the Royal h2g2 Procrastination Society!

As for marriage, well I've been snuggling up to my other half for 17 years without feeling the need for a piece of paper making it "official" in the eyes of some small minded bureaucrat. The presents would be nice, mind...

Oh, and welcome! Enjoy!
Shan't spoil it by sermonising about how you can save the planet/feed the poor. Well not yet anyway!

Dammit, Narapioa got here first to do the inevitable POO plug and Saturnine joke. I had one all lined up, Ill have to save it now.

But welcome anyway mate, any problems or questions with anything, ask here and there are so many people from such a broad range that you're bound to find the answer you want...

Tom two hundred and ten thousand and ten

Thanks all for the top advice.. it might take me some time just to try out some of these options so that'll keep me occupied, as will h2g2!

I joined Amnesty International some time ago which gives me a little of the doing something worthwhile thing - but I think we're totally unprepared for kids. Still, practising for them is always fun.smiley - winkeye
