I know giraffes have got long necks, but does anyone know what kind of noise a giraffe makes?

Dunno I think they are mostly silent to hide from lions. But think they grunt a bit.

According the Baddiel & Skinner giraffes don't have a voice box. So they can't make any sounds. Instead they have a voice-generator like Stephen Hawking.

>> Although usually quiet, giraffes are not voiceless as the common myth leads us to believe, but instead can produce snorting or moaning noises, particularly when there is danger. <<

I would have thought it depended on which way the wind's blowing, or how fast they're running.

From 'Walker's Mammals of the World' (5th edition):

"[The giraffe] has a variety of sounds but is rarely heard. It may grunt or snort when alarmed, a female may whistle to call its young, and calves bleat."
