New Zealand and the yachting fraternity has lost a great sporting icon, one of its greatest heroes.
Sir Peter Blake was killed by pirates on the Amazon late on Wednesday.
Sir Peter roused the entire country of NZ in 1995 when he won the America's Cup, and continued to enthrall the nation with his various yachting exploits.
He was also a great supporter of the environmentalist movement. Sir Peter was the chosen successor to Jacques Cousteau.
He was sailing the Amazon to raise awareness and draw attention to the plight of the Rain Forests when he was killed.
RIP Sir Peter Blake

Damn.
Sad news. Sorry to hear it.
But thanks for sharing.
I might not otherwise have heard! The media here (Canada) seems pre-occupied today with the US decision to legalise torture and have secret military tribunals ..oh and they also just stationed the National Guard along the 4000 mile border with Canada. Hmmmm...
~jwf~ (not a good day for the good guys)
RIP Sir Peter Blake
