Where did Pink Floyd get their name from?
Gnomon - time to move on Posted Oct 7, 2005
The band took their name from two American pop musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
That's according to that source of all knowledge, h2g2.

Is the "money, money, money" in your name a Pink Floyd quote, Xanatic.
Or is it
it's not - is it?
Abba?

Well, it is due to the fact that some extra money was aciddently put into my bank account. I have to pay it back later, but they came at a very opportune moment. Yes it's from Abba.

"Pop" musicians? Hmmm, I dunno about that ... they were pretty obscure. Blues musicians, definitely. But not all that well-known outside of blues circles. Pink Anderson used to tour with circus-type travelling variety entertainment groups (according to the liner notes on Ry Cooder's Chicken Skin Music LP, Pink Anderson showed Cooder his version of the traditional "I Got Mine" heard on the LP - and it demonstrates Anderson's folksy circus troupe background nicely). "Dipper Boy" Floyd Council was even more obscure. I think Syd might have been one of the very few people to own a recording by the man. Perhaps ironically, their only real claim to fame was that Syd Barrett came up with the name "Pink Floyd" from their names.
