Just a quick question/thought. Are we saving the planet or saving the human race? I reckon despite whatever ecological damage we try to do, humans will die out before long before they have manage to kill off the planet and all other species.

Hmm, I don´t really think humans are going to die out soon. The power of something like nuclear bombs are overrated. On the other hand, I am worried about another plague hitting the world, that might cause some serious trouble.

I think the humans have had a pretty good run so far, but isn't the planet due another mass extinction. This difference this time is that, instead of death being rained down from above, we sew the seeds of our own destruction.
The seals thing: It's probably important to say that diminishing fish stocks are actually a result of overfishing (as 'treehuggers' have been pointing out for the past eight years). I'm not sure seal numbers have risen by any dramatic figure because people haven't stopped killing big eyed fluffy seal pups. And there have been concerted efforts to 'save the shark' especially after Jaws gave the great white such a bad reputation.

In the course of researching why I feel so strongly about the latest H2G2 dictum banning all free speech I have rediscovered another hero: my mother.
I won't embarass all concerned with the details, but there aren't many peole who wer brave enough to bring personal testimony on video back from Shanghai to Hong Kong in the month immediately after the Tiananmen square massacre. There aren't many who would continue teaching in Africa having been threatened in Ethiopia and Malawi, and all the while bringing up two young children.
Gotta hand it to you.

Yeah, that actually sounds quite heroic. Also because she didn´t let her family "get in the way" if I may say so.
