Please post your suggestions here.
I'm in favour of one of the following three dates, myself:
Sat 8-Jan-2005
Sat 15-Jan-2005
Sat 29-Jan-2005

I'd personally go for the 8th, I know its closer to Christmas than we often have, but I think that would be good in a way,

I'm happy with the same three dates proposed by Gnomon, but lean towards the 8th for no good reason other than the weekend after the new year is usually horribly quiet and dull.

The 8th is my wedding anniversary! What better way to celebrate than to leave the wife at home and head off to London to meet a bunch of weirdos.

Well, as I've said elsewhere, I'm also in favour of the 8th as I am off work that week and will be able to spend more time in London.

I'm for the 8th as well, but would happily turn up for any of the other days.
That said I don't have to book holiday and can comfortably travel down for the weekend.
A plus of the 8th might be that you can stay in London Uni halls of residence, if you are staying over.

Am happy with the 8th!
When the date is confirmed I will get time booked off work.

Another one for the 8th, but the other two are fine.

is there anyone for whom the 8 th January is an no no? as I said, and a few others I believe also, I'd like the 8 th, but it wouldn't (as far as I know at the current time) make too much or any difference to me what date it was on...

The important thing, surely, is that someone reasonably close to London is able to book a room in a pub for the date we choose. So the date will surely depend on the availability of such a room. From experience, nobody likes to go out that close to New Year, so there should be plenty available.

yeh, that is one thing we are noticibly short of at the moent; a venue for the evenign I'm no good to find somewhere I'm a bit too far from London here, and don't know many pubs there, asdies the ones we've been to before on previous meets

2legs, how many people usually attend a winter meet? I'm told that the Princess Louise, just down the road from the Pendrals Oak, might be an option - to hire out their upstairs bar. But if more than forty people show up we could end up on two floors.
Apparently they have a web-site. I can get back to you later with the URL.

They have three function rooms of various sizes. It is all booked up for the 8th and 22nd but free on 15th and 29th.
The function rooms are free if you meet the minimum spend:
Small room for 50-60 people min. spend 400
Medium room 80-100 min. spend 600
Large room for 100+ people I forgot to ask
They do food.

Doubt we would have much problem meeting the minimum spend thing, I've not to my knowledge ever got more than a tenner spare from a hundred on a nights drinking at a hootoo bash *hic*

Meant to say, I have been here to the cellar bar (the medium room) - although I'd have thought 80-100 people in there would be a bit cosy, lot of people would be standing. Haven't been in the other bars. The beer was remarkably cheap for a london pub.
Will put my thinking cap back on to see if I can find any other options.

Also, apparently there is the Bell Book and Candle. It's normally shut on a Saturday night but if attendance was guaranteed or people were prepared to put money up front they might be persuaded.

I tried contacting the Bell Book and Candle, by E-mail before the last Londond meet, and they never replied.... The princess Louise is where we've met before isn't it, at lunchtime afternoon/ during previous meets I think...
