Skankyrich Promotions is pleased to be able to offer h2g2 Researchers a once-in-a-lunchtime experience - 'An Audience with Gosho'.
Yes, Gosho himself will be in dere ol' Deb'n in late October, so if you can get down to Torquay for the weekend of 24-26 October it's your chance to meet the fella. The weekend will also feature:
Teeing off at the incredible Torquay Crazy Golf course!
A cream tea on Torquay seafront!!
Awesome excitement as the famous Torquay Land Train takes you down to the harbour... and back!!!
Unhealthy amounts of beer!!!!
Accommodation can be arranged at one of Torquay's finest two-star hotels at a reduced rate, probably around twenty quid per person per night or thereabouts depending on availability, including breakfast.
If you're interested, let me know

Gosh that does sound awfully tempting! Unfortnately I think we're committed to attending next door's wedding that weekend.
Hey ho - I take it you'll toast absent friends

*and again in suitable language of the day*
Harr, me hearty, that do be mighty temptin' but yer bottle o' rum will not cross my lips, for Cap'n Keelhaul's presence is requested elsewherrrrre, and the pirate code commands that she bring chestfuls o' doubloons to pacify the brigands from the galleon fornenst the good ship Lucky Star, harrrr.

This does sound like a jolly fine idea. We've been invited to a wedding that weekend, but we much prefer crazy golf and devon cream teas, to be honest.
Put Odo and I down as probables.

I'm still strangely drawn...
I would like to meet my online boss
Let me check transport possibilities - are there trains from Bristol? How often and how big a mortgage does one need?

Trains come down here about once an hour from Bristol, and I think if you book them in advance you can get them for £25 or so. It would be great to meet another one of my slaves

The Paddington service goes direct to Torquay sometimes, or you might have to change at Newton Abbot, five miles away. The downside is that it's going to cost you £75 or so. It's going to be 24-26 October
Bea, you can get here and back from Bristol for £12 at the moment. You have to book a specific train for that price, but it's still a pretty good deal.
Did I mention that, as hotel residents, you'd have a 24-hour bar at your disposal?

Serephina, why not bring the nipper? Ged can stay in and babysit, and we'll take you out and get you bladdered

Bristol's looking the cheapest fly-wise, plus at the most suitable times. In the spirit of divide and conquer, I could send Dai to the wedding do, and come over and discuss....ooooh, serious editorial policy type stuff with you lot!
(Or just drink)
Exeter is the other possibility for flying - are there straight-forward transport links from there, or do I have to go via Glasgow, changing at Crewe?

I'm not really here Posted Sep 22, 2008
Gah! I'm unfortunately really busy that weekend, although one of the days there is a vague chance it might be cancelled. If not I might just cancel the other day so I can at least make Saturday evening and Sunday.
Will Gosho only be there for that weekend?
I would be interested in a cheap room, I would make the very brave effort to leave J and both dogs behind for a change.

I think the 24 hour bar thing has just about clinched my seriously investigating making it and I'd be needing a hotel room... if only we knew of a hotel.... I'd get a third off the rail fare I think, or err yeh about a third off: if I were travelling from paddington and someone else was also going from that direction, I oughta be able to get one* other person a third off the railfare using my railcard I may have to try and wangle some time off work though
