Trust me, G, my holidays consist of exactly what you described, and seeing as we're down in Torquay for three nights, this is now officially a holiday for us.
Odo will want to go out and do active stuff and not drink very much, but she's odd like that, and she's quite used to the idea of leaving us behind with the beer if that's what takes her fancy.

My girlfriend at the time I first visited the US was like that. All I wanted to do was watch baseball on TV and MTV (well, this was 1985), eat, drink and do not very much. She (an American), on the other hand, wanted to do 'stuff'. Museums, galleries, parks, the World Trade Centre... things.
It's not much fun getting around Manhattan in July. Pee-yew

I've never 'experianced' a holiday that involved anything more strenious than getting drunk and eating But then I'm from the kind of family where getting drunk and eating is pretty much the main passtime really...

Jesus Christ. I should've married you. I'd get to see some films on the cheap as well.

Not on the cheap, matey boy - free It's the food and drink that is subsidised, and would also be free if they put me on salary

If we did manage to come along , wshich isn't looking 'too' hopefull at the moment, I'm sure Ged would keep Odo company doing stuff other than drinking

It's a good thing I get three paycheques in October. Flights ain't as cheap as they used to be and that exchange rate is heading in the wrong direction

Flight booked, not yet confirmed.
$150 cheaper than it was a few weeks ago
Arrive Heathrow 7.40am Wednesday 22nd
Depart Heathrow 2.20pm Tuesday 28th (that's gonna mean a hell of an early start to get there from Torquay in time for check-in )
I'm not sure yet whether to go to Exeter first and then on to Torquay, or make the round trip from Torquay to Exeter on Thursday/Friday. Depends on my friend's schedule. Either way I think I'll get the coach from Heathrow to Devon since that'll do away with having to schlepp all the way to Paddington and then back out, although I shall miss that train journey.

I really hope Parrfers can make it. Anyone got an email address for him?

Well, Wednesday 22nd is a Post night. You're very welcome to come straight down, of course, but I'm likely to be busy for most of the night and I may be antisocial. You may be better off coming to us on the Thursday, but totally up to you.
I haven't heard from Parrfers for years - not since he mucked in with the Devon Entries.
We still have a couple of rooms, legsy. Travel back on the Sunday would be fairly easy - there are direct trains into London from Torquay every day.

It'd have to be Thursday or Friday the earliest, as I don't know if I've really* got any time left to take off work (though can wangle odd days not working under pretence of Virgin media broken internet ) I just had a quick peek at trains, seems most look to be from paddington to Exiter and thence to Torquay, (slightly quicker and more of them during the day ), and a few (slightly longer time wise), trips taht go from paddington striaght to Torquay Journey doens't look to ber quite* as long as I first feared, which is good, quickest just under five hours from Cambridge Though I think I need to try and read the times again when I'm a bit less falling a asleep

I'll be travelling to Exeter first and staying there on the Wednesday night, then my friend is very kindly going to drive me to Torquay on Thursday.
So that all works out rather well

I still haven't had confirmation from the airline and I couldn't access an updated itinerary from the booking agent yesterday. Last time I tried to fly somewhere (to New York) I found that I (or someone with my name, or with a name that sounds like mine, or with a name nothing like mine at all) was on a no-fly list The woman at the check-in desk made a phone call and I continued with my journey. I hope I'm not going to have to jump through hoops again

I'm confirmed.
Whether I'll still have bother at the check-in remains to be seen.
