A Conversation for Grass
It Ain't Necessarily So

Grass isn't quite as universal a ground cover as you assume, it is in fact only in the so-called temperate regions that it is a force to be reckoned with. For instance, in parts of the Caribbean (notably Martinique) the major ground-cover is a low-growing thorny plant that looks a bit like 'sensitive plant' (I never found out what is was called) and which is a bugger to walk on barefoot. In the far north of Scandinavia, the main groundcover is moss.
