I want to talk for a wee minute about friendship.
Sometimes we get so busy with our own complicated lives, that we forget to ask our friends how they are. Sometimes we forget to ask "are you lonely?"

Thereby hangs a (sad?) tale.
Or, as a German tongue-in-the-mouth saying goes: Everyone just thinks of themselves- I'm the only one who thinks of me!
(Loses something in translation. Assonance, actually. And alliteration. The original is "Jeder denkt an sich, nur ich denk' an mich")

I don't want this to be rude TC, and I do think of you as a friend, but in the same way that I don't sing in your choir...

Yes, sorry, the second part of my post was rather out of place. Hope things are cheering up a bit.

I think it is a fascinating question...
If a friend asked me if I was lonely, I would say no, because my friend was speaking to me, and that made things better.
It is difficult, though, as that means that when I am lonely, especially at work at the moment, when someone visits me I am instantly happy to see them and start smiling, so I appear to be fine and they don't know what I have been putting up with while I've been on my own...
The question does remind me that it is important to at least check in with my friends as often as I can, so if they were lonely, they hopefully feel better just by hearing from me, as I feel better just hearing from them...

Sometimes I *want* to be alone. At times I don't and that's hard, because you can't just conjure a friend or companion in an instant.
I'm not sure how I'd respond if anyone actually asked if I was feeling a bit lonely - I don't remember ever anyone asking that question, maybe they'd not want the answer!

I'm like that, too. I want to be alone first thing in the morning so I can get up to speed [I'm a night owl, so I don't do mornings very well...]

I love being alone, well as alone as someone with multiple personalities can be, but the times when I get out into what the rest of you call the 'real' world it is such a buzz. What fun it all is. And I wonder why the people who aren't alone seem to be so sad.

Maybe they bug each other?

That's not friends, that's the FBI.

Perhaps I phrased it wrong, by using "are you lonely" as the example in the first post. I meant more that we forget to say, "how are you doing?" and mean the question, and care about the answer.
Key: Complain about this post
