A Conversation for 'Star Wars' - the Films
Episodes 7, 8, & 9?
Tatty42 Started conversation Jan 29, 2000
What are anyone's (and everyone's) views on whether Lucas will do the 7th, 8th, & 9th chapters/episodes and what story line do you think they'll follow? An existing one, or a completely new one?
Also, does anyone find it annoying how "Episode 1" has stuck to The Phantom Menace? Personally I can't stand it and hope it doesn't happen to any of the others!

Well, Lucas claims that 1,2 and 3 are the last, but let's see how he feels when it sinks in how much merchandising money there is still to be made.
As far as Internet rumour goes (and I'm not a Star Wars fan to any extent), 7, 8 and 9 will deal with the resurrection of the Emperor, Skywalker's rise to Jedi Knight (or higher) status, with consequent tempation from the Dark Side, and the upbringing / conflict of the Solo & Leia kids [they've got to be twins, haven't they?]. Cue an almighty and lucrative bust-up when one turns to EVIL.
Any other thoughts?

Hello and welcome to the not-very-welcoming web community. I've been here for less than two days and I've already been ripped out twice. Sheesh!

I read a trilogy of books dealing with what happens after Return Of The Jedi - stuff like a big Imperial Admiral and another evil jedi. It would probably be going a bit far to make 7,8 and 9 but I guess if Star Trek can do it then Star Wars can. Judging by his past record though, Lucas would be about 156 years old when he finished episode 9! Oh and why does everyone hate the Phantom Menace? I thought it was class and you can buy it on video from the 3rd of April...

Hello Ian the Moose!
I don't hate The Phantom Menace, I thought it was a mint film! Very nice graphics! Do you know if The Phantom Menace is available to order yet and if so, where from?
Which trilogy did you read? I always thought Jedi Knight would make a cool trilogy or at least an episode. Problem is thiugh, anyone who's played it will know the story (that actually goes for most things).
What say you?

Ian The Moose Posted Feb 29, 2000
Well the trilogy I read was by Timothy Zahn - I'm afraid I don't know what Jedi Knight is. As for people knowing the story - that is one of the main features of these new films. Its like 'Titanic' - everyone knows how its going to turn out. Little boy gets bad after training with Obi Won Kenobi. Has twins. Turns into Darth Vader. Nasty bloke with big nose (senator Palpatine) becomes Emperor. Then you get into the original films. Simple. So the point is it doesn't matter if everyone knows the story - its how they get there that counts.

Small Fish?????????? How could small fish ever build a lightsaber, let alone wield it? Please xplain!
God luck with marrying Ewan McGregor! I'll be expecting a wedding invite!!
Jdi Knight is a game on the PC. It's main character is a guy called Kyle Katarn. Seven Dark Jedi have now taken over the splinters of the empire and their leader (Jerec) is looking for the Lost Valley of the Jedi, which if he finds, "he will become more powerful than the universe has ever known; the eradication of life from a star system in a whisper will be within his grasp"
It is Kyles job to find and destroy Jerec, either to take the valley for himself (turn to the Dark Side), or to defend it (the Light Side).
You should try and find a copy. You'll probably enjoy it.

Sounds a bit of an arse storyline to me. Valley of the Jedi? Hmmmm.... I think far to much has been written about Star Wars and events after Return Of The Jedi. Too many people trying to cash in. Still if Jedi Knight is a good game then you can't argue I suppose. Is it old?
Oh and fish are more cunning than you'd think.

Best be wary of fish then!!
JK isn't really that old, but it's been out for a length of time, so...

Having been informed by a Star Wars fanatic friend (No, I am not referring to myself in the third person in some desperate attempt to make myself seem like less of a Star Wars junkie, but she's nuts.) who has read some of the books that pick up where Episode 6 leaves off... It seems that anyone planning to write a book based upon anything Star Wars needs the approval of George Lucas himself. Since most of these books (and there are many books in many different series, each written by a different author) begin directly after Episode 6, it would be pretty difficult to throw in Episodes 7, 8, and 9 without upsetting whatever plot twists the books have established and ruining the lives of various nerds who have grown up planning to be Luke Skywalker. Still, as long as George isn't dead...

As far as I can gather, plenty of nerds have been upset at Episode 1 anyway - do you really think they care about upsetting people when these films are made? They make money! That's the cynical view anyway. It would be a mistake to try and make episodes after Return Of The Jedi ecause the whole POINT of that film is that it has the huge climax where everything comes to a head and there is finally a happy ending. There is no way you could follow it - its just too damn good. If they made Episode 7 I wouldn't go and see it out of principle because it'd be nothing more than a huge cash in with no point other than money.
Oh and did anyone queue to buy the video? I'm sorry but that really would be sad.

I hope Episode 6 (or, I suppose, Episode 3) is the last of the Star Wars films--nothing can beat the final victory. I, for one, enjoyed Episode I. I didn't, as you put it, "queue" to buy the video (I'm an American, and we on this side of the pond don't hear that verb very often), but I may eventually. I was upset at all the critics for panning it. Sure, it's cheesy, but all the Star Wars films are cheesy--count the references to "delusions of grandeuer," usually occurring within a few sentences of one another. The acting may be awful, and George Lucas may make films just for the merchandise--but no one cares. The Star Wars movies just rock. You can't tell me that every time you hear the theme music, your ears don't perk up. (Well, they probably don't, unless you're a dog, which you're probably not--that would make typing rather difficult.) Episode I answered a lot of questions from the first (last) three films, and it had a pretty good plot, besides. If you had never seen Episodes 4, 5, & 6, what would you think of it?

The Cheese Posted Apr 4, 2000
Frankly, I would be lost and would never, ever, EVER watch a Star Wars movie again had I seen the first one first. Luckily I didn't, and I also read the books and played the card game along the way to give me a greater understanding of...The Force.
But the Star Wars movies do rock. No doubt about that. If there were no Star Wars, there would be no meaning to life. Okay, so that's a but of an overestimate, but still...
And I think it should stop with Episode Six. Everything after has been said in the books, and I don't think anyone (even the die-hard fans will care). If Lucas wants to make more money, there are two things he needs to do:
1) Make action figures, comics, Micro Machines, toys, electronic devices, and everything else possibly concievable that could be made from a sci-fi series out of the characters, plot, ships, weapons, etc. from the book
AND
2) RELEASE THE SERIES ON DVD! He's insisted that all the movies have the THX and he's made them digital, yet he won't do the logical thing and release them on DVD! What's up with that?
Yes, the films are cheesy - but isn't almost all sci-fi cheesy?
My ears do perk up every time I hear the music, although I must say the music from the old movies (Eps. 4, 5, 6) is much better. I never could get into the music for Ep. One, except for the cool song that they have in the second fight with Darth Maul in the palace. That song rocks.
Finally, I didn't wait in line (or 'queue') to buy the video since I'm waiting for the DVD version. I will not hand over one more dollar to Lucas until he releases the darned thing on DVD. So phooey on him.

OK, so it's established then. I f he starts to write 7, 8 & 9, we campaign.
I didn't que for the video either 9i'm not *that* sad!)...I ordered it instead...
I'm not entirely sur which piece of Music mr. Cheese is talking about, but I like the "Duel of the Fates" piece (actually, it's probably the one you'r thinking of)
Word says, he's not releasing them on DVD 'till they're all done..the idea being everyone buys the videos, and then, cashes in on the DVD...
I do not "phooey" on the god-father...

Stop taking the piss out of me saying queue! As for Star Wars being cheesy - it can't be because Star Wars was the film that all since are measured by! Star Wars is the primordial cheese!
As for DVD - I am not rich enough to own one but I agree Star Wars would be class on digital technology. You reckon he's waiting for all the films to be made before Lucas releases it on DVD? We'll be clamouring for Virtual Reality Star Wars by then! Plus when are they gonna get around to making proper lightsabres so kids can play at being Luke Skywalker etc? I say kids but I know that I would be first in the 'queue' for one.

You know the plot synopsis for Episodes 7-9 posted above? Well, it's happened. I recommend you check out the comics (now in trade paperback format) called "Star Wars: Dark Empire," "Star Wars: Dark Empire II," and "Star Wars: Empire's End."
