h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Years ago, I came into possession of a promotional beach towel (for databases, of all things). Having read the Hitchhiker's Guide, I knew the towel would be extraordinarily useful. Here are some things I've used it for, other than the obvious:

1. To keep light out of my eyes while sleeping.
2. To keep sound out of my ears while sleeping. (This can be done in combination with #1.)
3. To drape over my legs when driving my convertible jeep with the top down in January.
4. To form the base of a "beach" display that I set up in someone's office while she was on vacation.

Very good uses! I hope to incorporate them in the update for this page, which I will start work on as soon as enough people come in here and post their suggestions and comments. Possibly within the next couple weeks.

well. i'm not at all sure just what "other uses for a towel" consists of. i mean, to propose "other" uses implies that i know all of the "not other" uses; i don't.

but i've just returned from a place that has temperatures and humidity levels that require a towel. in fact, several, and of different sizes: [1]a small and handy one to hang about ones neck, tuck into shirt collar and be ready to wipe off excess excreted coolants before same drip into food items, onto travelling companions or prized artifacts, or interfere with sensory apparatus [2] a larger one to wipe off (but certainly not dry) ones outside after an intentional or inadvertent dowse of water [3] an even larger one that serves as a place to sleep upon as the need arises.

3 will not serve for 1, nor can a 2 make both. but essential was 1.

needless to say, i am a towel advocate. i make sure i have some available in vehicles and abodes over which i can exert control. stressing type 1, in that it can serve, however poorly, in all other circumstances. plus it's small and handy.

sometimes i wish i were the same.
