Placebo are a vastly underrated band in my humble opinion. I don't think that their cause is always helped by the singles they put out. The first single from their second (and best) album, "Without You I'm Nothing," was "Pure Morning," which is an excellent track but is not representative of the whole album (probably because it was recorded at a different time to the rest of the album).
Placebo's fourth album ("Sleeping with Ghosts") came out last year and I was a bit disappointed with it, but I love all their other stuff. I've not had the opportunity to see them live yet, but I have it on good authority that they are an excellent live band.

Hi Lizz!
I remember, back when I was a callow youth, Placebo breaking - NME covers, spots on TOTP and so on.
Brilliantly noisy band, great that they're still going.
