Very nice . I think you will need to explain or link from some of the more technical terms, such as 'zooxanthellae'.
Otherwise, a really good entry.

Good Well done, nicely written, and it all seems to make sense and be correct (it all seemed to trigger off distant memories of siting in 'Taxonomy' classes at University)
Though I guess some of the more technical terms might need explaining as already mentioned, though personally there wasn't much I can think of term wise I didn't know already, but not everyone has studied this stuff
which is
really

Yes, it would be nice to get a description of zooxanthellae. And, (shock horror) you used the term Jelly Fish at one stage.
But, after that, this is a really excellent entry. Extremely informative and very well written. Well done.

One thing that might be worth pointing out is that some cnids show both medusan and polyp forms in their life. i seem to remember that a jellyfish egg starts out as a polyp which then then grows and splits into a whole lot of little jellyfish. Is this true?

Vic Posted May 28, 2004
yeah, jellyfish have polyp stage, i think it's referred to as the planulae stage which allows them to disperse around. I didn't really go into the reproduction as it's a bit complex but i should write about it to make the article more rounded... there's lots that can be said about cloning and colonial Cnidarians and stuff like that!
I shall explain some of the more technical terms as well. cheers for all your advice and thanks for reading through it

So tired that I'm forgetting may manners.
I meant, of course, that if you would be so kind as to add it to your list, then I would be most oblidged.

I'm sorry, i am about, it's just i've been rather a bit busy at the moment so things like this have slipped way down on the list of things to do.
Exams... new job... grrrr

I was disappointed by this entry. There's so much to be said about Cnidarians and I thought this said very little. You provide lots of extra stuff such as examples of convergent evolution and turtles eating plastic bags, but you don't actually tell us very much about Cnidarians themselves.
What are the basic types? Can you give an example of each that we might have heard of or encountered? What makes a jellyfish different from a coral or an anemone? What's a sea pen, and where do you get them?
I'd expect that if there are four types, there should be four sections, each with a header; a description of what is in the type; what the technical and common names for the type are; an example or two of that type.

Vic hasn't been sighted for more than three months... should we move this one to the FM?
