I stayed with Peter for a brief weekend at the very beginning of the summer. Hootoo the donkey now has a fieldmate.

I was in the habit of going to the South every September for the last 3 years, to fetch some summer without too much heat. And every year I visited some special Terri-related place on the 18th/19th. Capraia Isola in 2011 (the island Terri & me stayed on in 2010), Fatima in 2012, and this year a lovely forest place in the middle of France, where I stayed overnight with Terri in 2009.
No big news here. Animal-wise, I have 2 donkeys as Trig said, and Hootoo is much, much happier this way (despite them being 2 males). Yoda is still the same, but even more attached to me after every travel... Woolie Bear I gave away the winter after Terri died, and this was better for her and for me. There was no major attachment either way. It is amazing how different human-dog relationships can be. I suppose animals are just as individual as humans.
As to humans, I had a (seemingly) lovely new girlfriend this summer, who however turned out to be schizophrenic in the extreme. (The 'stalker' mentioned earlier.) I have not given up on her yet, but possibly I took on a bit too much of a challenge there.
Why can things never be easy?!
But I don't want to complain. I had a life, even if it seems strangely compressed into the 2 years with Terri. And if I die tomorrow, that's fine.

Life can never be easy, as its the hard bits, that useually end up having more meanning and importance to us, ultimately... I'm still reminded of Terri, frequently, from time to time, though I only ever 'met' her, here, on h2g2, in the so-called virtual world...

It's nice to hear from you, Petsch. I'm glad life is moving on, and I do hope the new friend turns out ok. Don't try so hard you break yourself though.

Hefty storms? My god, the media can make a drama from almost nothing. There was a little breeze, ok...
I may spend much of the dark winter months now looking at Terri's writing on here. If I can find it. Thank you for the link to the 'winter boating' article! I think she had a great talent for writing.

Sorry if I repeat myself to some of you. Once again, I could not get our local group interested. They seem to prefer doing the same year after year - same authors, same actors... Yawn! Many people at the fringes of the group like me are pretty pissed off with that.

Lovely to hear from you again Peter. Glad you sre dooing ok in spite of a few hiccups. life is never straightforward but maybe that's what makes it so interesting. Routines turn so easily in to ruts so perhaps it is for the best. Hopefully we learn something useful along the way and maybe have some fun.

Even though in this case, it seems my task is to learn to give up...

Petsch, giving Woolie Bear away probably was the best solution for both of you, as far as I understand dogs.
You were accepted as "leader of the pack", but with no pack left but her she might have felt insecure.

As to new girlfriend...bad luck. Finding someone who stays with you "durch dick und dünn" although she could weather any storm on her own, isn´t easy to find. Someone who needs a psychodoc instead of a soulmate won´t fill the gap left in your life.

And as to weather...even massive snowdrifts of 3" or so can be dealt with by telling your customers you are doing your best.

It's been 9 years now.

One lady I never had the chance to meet, but via hootoo first and then via email = I wish!
