Gnomon - time to move on Posted Dec 11, 2003
You should say "Roguelike computer games" rather than "roguelikes" in the first sentence. This is supposed to introduce the entry for someone who has no idea what NetHack is.

I was never too keen on my bit describing stuff that happens (the knight with Excalibur and that). If you like it, keep it, but it might be better replaced with a couple of short examples, instead of a long story.
Wasn't it release 3.4.0 that incorporated a bunch of stuff from SLASH'EM? That might be worth mentioning. Or just say that new editions of NetHack will often include stuff from a variant.
Now that it's up to someone else to implement them, I've got loads of suggestions, haven't I?

I've modified the section with examples of what happens, though I left Excalibur in there, because it makes a certain mythological sense that is typical of Nethack, and the info about it being just for lawfuls displays the Dev Team's attention to detail.
I think it was 3.3.0 that incorporated riding, monks and so forth for the first time. Also, I thought detailed discussion of which version had what features was too technical, so I included some examples of features developed in SLASH'EM instead.

Gordon, Ringer of Bells, Keeper of Postal Codes and Maps No One Can Re-fold Properly Posted Dec 16, 2003
Nitpick: Internet is a proper noun, so it should be capitalized in the first sentence.
Interesting entry!
Cheers!

That looks pretty good. The bit about stuff appearing first in variants and then in NetHack itself is almost exactly what I had in mind, although yours is probably more coherent. If you mention Sokoban it's probably a good idea to briefly explain what it is

Yes, I'm still here. I'll make the changes you suggested to my other articles as soon as I can. (I'm having a little trouble accessing h2g2 right now - sometimes when I click on a link it says "The RPC server is too busy to complete this operation.)
for paying some attention to my articles!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Hi Bagpuss and Ekaterin,
I am editing you two Rouelike game entries - Nethack - the computer game, and SLASH'EM - the computer game. Can you look at the updated versions and get back to me here or on my PS about what you think.
They both look pretty good to me - I only had to take out a footnote in the SLASH'EM entry and put the tags in the last paragraph of the Nethack entry. I hope you like what you see.
Annie

That was very quick . A couple of observations on the updated NetHack entry. I think that the term "DevTeam" needs defining, although not in a footnote. Just say "development team (DevTeam)" in the second sentence, and that will make it clear. (And if you're going to put a capital D on Development, please put a capital T on Team too, but I like it better with small letters on both.)
Also, a typo seems to have crept into the paragraph on praying and sacrificing - "onthe verge of death" needs a space between "on" and "the".
I didn't notice any changes to the SLASH'EM entry, so no comments there.
for editing my articles.

I have been lucky - I have had 4 entries so far and all four were pretty much perfect!
I have played Nethack so I knew what it is and what you were talking about.
I will fix up the typo and the Dev Team definition.

Oooh, the Nethack and SLASH'EM entries went from "accepted but not sent to sub-editor yet" to "pending" in one day - that's really impressive! At this rate I'll soon make it all the way into the Edited Guide.
