The ship sinks

...but the very old lady who features at the beginning and end wasn't drowned.

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry! Posted Oct 23, 2003
Yup...
Leo Di Caprio meets Kate Winslet on board Titanic (can't recall characters' names)...
They fall in love, etc.
Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks. He dies, she doesn't.
The end.
Why would I need to sit through 3 hours of film to find that out? I have better things to do with my life!

The most succinct review of this bloated shed-load of rubbish I heard was:
"Boy meets Girl and the Boat sinks."
Only worth watching for Kate Winslet's in my opinion...

I'd only watch it for the detail of the Titanic itself, apparently it's meant to be very like the real thing.
Before it sank, of course.

the film titanic is notorious for its historicsl innacuracies, OK, it may look like the titanic, but don't take it as 100% accurate

There is one other reason to see the movie...
When the boats sinking, the back of the boat lifts out of the water, exposing the props. People are hanging off the back of the boat while other people are jumping off the boat trying to get to safety. While you're watching all of this mayhem one poor fellow falls and hits the giant prop on his way down. It sounds like something out of the gong show (applause to the sound effects guys on this one). Its worth renting the movie just to see that, in a twisted sort of way.

It's worth borrowing it on DVD to slow that bit down and zoom in and see if the chap suffers any damage

There's another twist not yet mentioned ...
The valuable necklace that Leo draws Kate wearing doens't in fact go down with the Titanic. The old "Kate" has it all the time, and throws it into the ocean at the end ...

And wasn't that just the cheesiest looking necklace since _Romancing the Stone_?
