Talking Point: Giving Away the End

40 Conversations

Do you hate it when someone discussing the latest film or book says to you 'Oh, that bit at the end where...' and blurts out the ending in full detail? Or when some well-meaning idiot says 'Oh, I saw the twist coming a mile off' when you hadn't known that there was even going to be a twist? Maybe you've even avoided certain films completely because some klutz ruined it for you?

Well turn away now - you ain't gonna like this one.

Warning - Spoilers Ahead... Lots of 'em!

We want you to tell us what we've been missing. The only rule is, the film, book, play or TV show has to be at least one year old (the thinking being that if you can't be bothered to find out what happens yourself after a year, then it's your own beeswax).

We all know who Luke Skywalker's dad is, which unusual suspect goes by the name of Keyser Soze and 'whodunnit' in The Mousetrap (and if you don't know that one, you've had over 40 years to work it out!). But there are so many more endings to spoil...

  • Which film has the best 'surprise' ending? Which novels made you almost drop your book in shock?

  • Which story is so rubbish that it deserves to have its ending ruined? (*cough* Boxing Helena *cough*)?

  • Which endings were so predictable you're surprised no-one else saw them coming?
